Helping to end the largest wildlife massacre on the planet today is easier than you might think. Every year in Australia millions of adult kangaroos are shot for their meat and skins. Orphaned baby joeys, "worthless" to the industry, are shot, stamped on, clubbed over the head or abandoned to die. Australia promotes its multi-billion dollar tourist industry with an image of a kangaroo, whilst - in the ultimate betrayal - these gentle animals are gunned down and clubbed to death out of the sight of international visitors. Incredibly, this isn't just sanctioned by the Australian Government, it is actively promoted! Is this any way for Australia to treat its national emblem? There is no justification for this 'cull' apart from the blood money it brings from companies like Adidas, who make football boots out of kangaroo skin. Kangaroos are not pests. Kangaroos are not, nor ever have been in plague proportions. In fact, the kangaroo population is at one of its lowest figures ever due to a devastating drought, bush fire and continued 'culling'. There is real concern that because of the plummet in numbers that this beautiful animal is being driven inexorably towards extinction. We have to act urgently to stop this from happening. You might be wondering what you can do from the other side of the world? The answer is lots! Australia recently launched a campaign to attract more international visitors.
