Make your views really count by sending a message to Australia saying
why you won't even consider visiting their unique and beautiful country
whilst they continue to butcher their wildlife.
Below and four simple steps to sending your email:
1) Below is a sample message for you to read through.
Dear Sir/Madam
As a potential visitor to Australia I would especially look
forward to
seeing the diverse wildlife that distinguishes that extraordinary
country. Therefore it has come as quite a shock to find out that despite
Australia recently advertising itself with a kangaroo it thinks so
little of its national emblem that it actively encourages millions of
these magnificent, gentle and unique creatures to be blasted off the
face of the earth every year. For what? Just for their meat and to make
football boots for companies like Adidas!
I am especially horrified to learn that hundreds of thousands
of baby
'joeys' - considered useless by products - will also be killed by the
officially recommended method of being bludgeoned with iron pipes or
decapitated.
As a tourist, high up on my list of things to see in Australia
would be
mobs of kangaroos in the wild, but I have recently found out that the
population has crashed so dramatically in the last couple of years that
all I'm likely to see is the pathetic sight of roadkill. I find it hard
to fathom that despite drought, wild fires and reports in the Australian
press showing that the powers that be actually know that this barbaric
trade is anything but sustainable that the Government there has done
nothing to stem the slaughter.
Tragically, if the bloodshed continues, I fear a dodo might
be a more
appropriate choice for your national emblem.
I understand that Australia is hoping to attract more tourists
with a
new campaign, and the trade is already worth a huge amount of revenue to
your country - far more than the kangaroo killing industry - but as
someone who believes in eco-tourism I will think twice before visiting a
nation that harbours the biggest wildlife massacre in the world today,
and I will advise my friends and colleagues to do likewise.
I'd like to see Australia in a "different light" -
please help end this
shameful trade so that I am able to.
Yours sincerely |
